“Changes afoot” at the Florida High School Athletic Association

By LuAnne Schendel October 2016

Roger Dearing is no longer the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) Director. A search is underway for a new Director.

Student athletes can now transfer to a different school for every sport if they want (with some exceptions). If students are transferring to play “sport by sport” they can’t participate in the state championships. This issue may come up again. The red book rules still apply.

FHSAA will now allow schools to join by sport instead of requiring full membership.

Fines for recruiting violations have increased.

The FAANS lobbyist and president attend all FHSAA board meetings. In addition, James Herzog was recently named a representative to the Infractions Committee.
